Tschüss, Erde: Science-Fiction-K-Drama-Serie landet im April 2024 auf Netflix

Based on the novel by Kōtarō Isaka, „Auf Wiedersehen Erde“ is the highly anticipated original K-Drama science fiction series from Netflix, set to premiere worldwide on April 26, 2024. „Auf Wiedersehen Erde“ is an upcoming South Korean Netflix original dystopian drama directed by Kim Jin-Min and written by screenwriter Jung Sung Joo. This marks the first time since 2015 that Jung Sung Joo has written a screenplay, when she wrote the drama „Heard It Through the Grapevine.“ She is also responsible for writing the dramas „Secret Love Affair,“ „Roses and Bean Sprouts,“ and „The Wife’s Credentials.“ The series is adapted from the novel „The Fool at the End of the World“ by Kōtarō Isaka. Other works by Isaka that have been adapted by the author include the film „Bullet Train“ starring Brat Pitt. Netflix is also adapting another novel by Kōtarō Isaka. In November 2022, it was announced that Anne Hathaway and Selma Hayek Pinault were on board to star in a feature film titled „Rocker Monsters.“

What can you expect from the new series? Here is a translated full summary provided by Netflix: „After reports that an asteroid will collide with Earth and the Korean Peninsula will be in the impact zone, martial law is declared in Korea and chaos ensues. The conflict between those who believe in the asteroid collision and those who doubt it, criminals escaping from prison, charlatans inciting chaos, and the rush for asylum in safe zones lead to a world in disarray. In this chaotic world, middle school teacher ‘Sekyung’ (played by Ahn Eun-jin) suffers from an indelible trauma after the death of a student who was kidnapped during a protest rally. 200 days before the predicted apocalypse, people are still living their lives. ‘Sekyung,’ her friends, and the people in the town of Ungcheon are fighting for the well-being of the children of tomorrow despite these hardships… Today and tomorrow, we wait together for the end of the apocalypse.“

When is „Auf Wiedersehen Erde“ coming to Netflix? Initially expected to be released by the end of 2023, we now know that the series will premiere on April 26, 2024 at 8 AM GMT worldwide. Season 1 of the series will consist of a total of 12 episodes.

The show was first announced in January 2022, and casting and filming began around the summer. On September 5, 2022, a tweet from a K-Drama fan account revealed a screenshot from Instagram showing that filming for „Auf Wiedersehen Erde“ had wrapped.

Who are the actors in „Auf Wiedersehen Erde“? Ahn Eun Jin may be recognizable to some Netflix subscribers as the actress previously played a supporting role in „Hospital Playlist“ as Chu Min Ha and a supporting role in both seasons of „Kingdom“ as the wife of Moo Young, the personal guard of the crown prince. Yoo Ah-in was originally supposed to play the lead role in the series, and although he was involved in the production throughout, it was reported that he was later cut in post-production. The controversial decision was due to his arrest in March 2023 for drug offenses. However, Netflix still lists the actor in the show’s media center. The actor made his first appearance in a drama in four years playing the lead role in „Jung Jin Soo“ in „Hellbound.“ The actor’s latest project will also be featured on Netflix, where he plays the lead role in „Auf Wiedersehen Erde“ as Ha Yoon Sang. Jeon Sung Woo previously starred in the Korean adaptation of „Designated Survivor,“ but his role as Priest Damiano will be his first on Netflix in almost four years. Kim Yoon Hye has also only appeared in one Netflix original, while previously playing a supporting role as Seo Mi Ro in the incredibly popular „Vincenzo.“ Below are the confirmed cast members of „Auf Wiedersehen Erde“: Role Actor Jin Se Kyung Ahn Eun Jin Priest Damiano / Woo Sung Jae Jeon Sung Woo Kang In Ah Kim Yoon Hye TBA

What has died? This article will be updated until the show is released, as we are still awaiting a trailer and other content.
